New CEO At MongoDB Says Company At An Inflection Point

The new CEO certainly talks the talk, but self-belief and ambition are good characteristics in a CEO.

I especially want to acknowledge Dev whose leadership and vision created a phenomenal company, which has strong momentum and a tremendous market opportunity ahead. Many have asked why I chose MongoDB, I had multiple opportunities to lead other technology companies but MongoDB stood apart. We are at a true inflection point driven by major shifts across cloud, data and AI.

MongoDB has the potential to become the generational modern data platform of this evolving era, an opportunity that comes once in a lifetime.

During my diligence, I spoke with multiple customers. Across these conversations, the message was clear. MongoDB already powers core, mission-critical workloads with enterprises that are modernizing their technology stack. At the same time, MongoDB is uniquely positioned at the center of the AI platform shift. Few technology companies have that combination of durable core strength and emerging platform relevance.

Throughout my career, I have driven product to platform transformation at some of the most respected technology companies. Looking at MongoDB today, I see all the ingredients needed to build an iconic modern data platform company. World-class technology, a strong innovation engine, deep developer and customer pool and exceptional talent. We have everything required to become the generational data platform of choice in the AI era.

The shares jumped sharply on the latest results because of a massive ‘beat and raise’ (beat expectations and raised the outlook).

What we have on the chart are buy signals from Coppock and the moving averages. A new all-time high is some way off. It would be logical to buy some now and add more if and when that new high is achieved.

AI is all about feeding unimaginable quantities of data into ever-more-powerful computers to produce valuable intelligence. Managing that data is a key part of the process, which is the opportunity new CEO, Desai, is referring to. Like Credo Technology, MongoDB is a case of the right company in the right place at the right time.

Desai has a spectacular CV.

Chirantan “CJ” Desai serves as President and Chief Operating Officer at ServiceNow (NYSE:NOW). Desai oversees ServiceNow’s platform, products, engineering, cloud infrastructure, user experience, and customer success. He also leads enterprise-wide operations to ensure business rigor from innovation to execution. At least, he did until he accepted the top job at MongoDB.

Prior to joining ServiceNow, Desai was the President of the Emerging Technologies Division at EMC, where he had full P&L responsibility for emerging technology products and focused on launching and growing new businesses. From November 2004 to September 2013, Desai held several product leadership roles at Symantec Corporation, including Executive Vice President of Information Management and Senior Vice President of Endpoint and Mobile Security. Desai began his career with Oracle Corp and was a key member of the team that launched Oracle’s first cloud service.

Desai has a master’s degree in computer science and an MBA from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He currently serves on the board of directors of MSCI, a global leader in investment analytics and services.

MongoDB did well to attract this guy, and he will want to seize the opportunity he sees for MDB to be a key player in an AI boom which is still gathering pace. Investors are rattled because they have never seen a boom this explosive and potentially transformational for life on earth. Enterprises, governments, universities and militaries across the world are struggling to catch up.
